The EMD GT 46 MAC is a diesel-electric locomotive with AC transmission manufactured by General Motors Electro-Motive Diesel Company for Indian Railways in 1997-1998 and is classified as WDG 4 by Indian Railways. As an order, EMD manufactured thirteen engines, eight of which were exported in pieces and assembled in India. This locomotive entered the Indian Railways in 1999.

After several engines delivered to India in 1997-1998, DLW has taken steps to manufacture this type of engine in India from 2002-2019. The wheel configuration is Co-Co type and this engine is 69 feet 9 inches long and 13 feet 6 inches high. Fuel capacity is 6100 liters.

WDG4 has 4000 horsepower and one drive chamber. This subcategory WDG 4D has 4500 horsepower and it has two drive chambers. This category of engines is specially designed for freight trains. This type of engine is capable of running up to 40 cargo compartments (60-65 feet long compartments) at an average speed of 90 km / h at a time. It is a great achievement for them to manufacture locomotives entirely in India.

The M11 locomotive in Sri Lanka is also included in this category, as it is a 12-cylinder V12 with only reduced power and weight, as India is not authorized to change anything else.
