While Prokofiev is famous for many of his harmonically complex pieces, such as Sonatas, Romeo and Juliet, Sarcasms, and piano concertos, he also wrote some pedagogical work during his lifetime, such as this underrated Opus 65. Opus 65 may sound simple at first glance, but Prokofiev managed to keep the pieces interesting. Written in Prokofiev's unique style, these pieces were polished and crafted masterfully, keeping only the absolutely essential elements and including just enough for the pieces to be coherent.

No.12 Moonlit Meadows is, without a doubt, the most peaceful piece in this collection. The calming melodic line and stable broken chords guide the music, as well as to help us picture a scene where we lie on soft grass in an open field, there is a gentle breeze in the wind, and we look up to a cloudless starry sky with the Moon shining bright in the sky. The pedal is used throughout the piece to help create this image, but it needs to be carefully executed in order to prevent any muddiness.
