The event drew key opposition figures, including ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, South-East political leaders, and several former Labour Party lawmakers.

Obi described his move as a “rescue journey” aimed at dismantling Nigeria’s current political structure and rebuilding governance ahead of 2027. He made it clear that he will contest the presidency for a single four-year term and ruled out any vice-presidential ambition.

The defection triggered a wave of political movement, with sitting senators, former governors, and ex-National Assembly members joining the ADC. The Labour Party, however, reacted sharply, issuing Obi a 48-hour ultimatum to resign formally or face expulsion, calling the move a betrayal. Meanwhile, Abia State Governor Alex Otti confirmed he would remain with the LP.
