This video is about the San Francisco Army Presidio as it existed back in 1936 with all of the pomp and circumstance of that era on the grounds overlooking San Francisco Bay. The Presidio was built in 1776 on 1480 acres by the Spanish/Mexico/United States Army. New Spain established the Presidio on September 17, 1776 to gain a foothold in Alta California and the San Francisco Bay. The presidios of Spanish Philippines in particular, were centers where the martial art of Arnis de Mano was developed from the Spanish cut-and-thrust fencing style. The term "presidio" is derived from the Latin word praesidium meaning protection or defense. The Presidio was used as a military base by the Spanish, Mexican and American armies for the next 218 years. It remained under US Army control until 1994 when it was transferred to the National Park Service.
Runtime of the video is a little more than 4 minutes and contains background music along with some added sound effects since the original footage was recorded by Alfred Sutro in color on 8mm silent film.
