Bridging the gap between traditional, classical, and contemporary music, Duo Cassotto is a dynamic duo made up of flutist, Ray Furuta and accordionist, Merima Ključo. Combining forces between their cultural and musical upbringing, Duo Cassotto explores a variety of music ranging from Ključo's original composition "Sevdah Songs" based on traditional Bosnian music to cutting edge new music composed specifically for the duo ..... Known as "the protege of the great flutist, Carol Wincenc", flutist, RAY FURUTA serves as Artistic Director of the Silicon Valley Music Festival and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles including the San Jose Mission Chamber Orchestra, Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Chamber Players, and the Long Beach Mozart Festival Orchestra. He has served as a performing artists for festivals including the Banff Centre, Sarasota, Long Beach Mozart Festival, and Yellow Barn and is a regular collaborator with such luminaries as Peter Frankl, Jon Nakamatsu, Alan Kay, Susan Narucki, and members of the Peabody Trio, L.A. Piano Quartet, as well as Mendelssohn, Tackas, and Emerson String Quartets. In demand as a teacher, he has held residencies at institutions including The San Francisco Conservatory of Music, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, The University of the Pacific, and Santa Clara University. He also serves as Chamber Music Faculty at Stony Brook University (Undergraduate), and the Silicon Vallery and Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festivals ..... Internationally renowned accordionist MERIMA KLJUČO performs as a recitalist and has been guest soloist with orchestras including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Holland Symphonia and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. As soloist she has participated in a number of renowned festivals including the St. Magnus Festival (Scotland), the City of London Festival, the Gaudeamus Festival (Amsterdam) and the Gubaidulina Festival. Her involvement with world music is an enriching musical experience that brings a new dimension of interest to her work. As the producer, composer and arranger for her highly rated album Zumra (Harmonia Mundi UK / World Village 2010), she has created a multi-layered dynamic interpretation of a musical tradition she treasures. Zumra was voted byThe Sunday Times (UK) as one of the "Top 100" albums of 2010 (number 4 of the top 10 world music albums). Ključo has taught workshops and master classes in many conservatories and universities, including the Guildhall School of Music (England), the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and Syracuse and Georgetown universities (USA). She was a faculty member at Yellow Barn (Putney, VT) during the 2011 Summer season.
