Only 64 road-going McLaren F1 hypercars were ever built, and only 5 LM models were handmade by Gordon Murray and his team.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest cars ever made, if not the greatest, the current value of any McLaren F1 is just astonishing; an example with just 400km on the clock recently sold at Pebble Beach for over $20million.

That's a cool R300million. Which quite obviously puts the McLaren out of the reach of most of us mere mortals. But what if the McLaren F1 is your ultimate dream car, and you just have to own one during your time under the sun? Well, I suppose, you could build one. From scratch. In your workshop.

This is the incredible story of Danie Brough, who set about 23 years ago to build his dream car. And here it is, in all its Papaya Orange glory, a remarkably true-to-life replica of a McLaren F1 LM. And he was kind enough to let us drive it.

For our video guy, Ciro De Siena, this was an opportunity which was as thrilling as it was daunting. How could he ever replace a car like this if something went wrong?

We are glad to report that the day of filming went smoothly and we are extremely proud to bring you this world exclusive first drive, as well as an interview with Danie telling his remarkable story.
