People talk about Large PCs in Pathfinder like it's all downsides. I disagree! I think the downsides aren't as big a deal as they're often made out to be AND there are plenty of upsides people just ignore. Buckle in folks, this is a long one!
At 2:35 I talk about the rules for Large PCs in 5-foot spaces: https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=3270
“When moving through an area that is only 5 feet wide, a Large PC can move through the space but treats each square as difficult terrain”
Meanwhile the Squeeze Activity takes a MINUTE to get through 10 feet and is NOT intended to be how you treat Large PCs in 5-foot hallways… https://2e.aonprd.com/Actions.aspx?ID...
Questions to ask your GM before playing a Large character (discussed starting at 2:11):
Do you know that 5-foot wide hallways are difficult terrain for Large characters, and don’t require Squeeze?
Can I traverse a 5-foot wide space with a wall on one side and an enemy on the other as if it were difficult terrain, or would you require Tumble Through?
Can I END my turn in a 5-foot wide hallway or do I need to get through it in a single turn’s worth of Strides?
Can I enter a 5-foot space beside a Medium ally (in a 10-foot wide hallway) to access the frontline?
At 16:17 I talk about the Cover provided by Large PCs: https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=2372
“If you're uncertain or need to be more precise, draw a line from the center of your space to the center of the target's space … If the line passes through a creature instead, the target has lesser cover.”
“If a creature between you and a target is two or more sizes larger than both you and your target, that creature’s space blocks the effect enough to provide standard cover instead of lesser cover.”
This is not to say you should be a RAW-warrior to your GM! Don’t bully them into tracking Medium creatures’ cover consistently if they find that exhausting or obnoxious. Simply tell them that the game’s balance intended for your Large PC to be providing as much cover as a Medium creature would, and to just apply the same house rule to your Large PCs if they don’t wanna track Medium creature cover.
