Depuis le 18ème siècle, de riches Bretons se rendaient à Nice pour passer leurs hivers. La Promenade des Anglais a été achevée en 1824. De nos jours, les habitants l'appellent La Prom. Les bâtiments étaient autrefois les demeures des riches. Aujourd'hui, le musée Massena est une villa créée par l'architecte danois Hans-Georg Tersling. Un Roumain du nom d'Alexandru Negrescu chargea l'architecte Édouard-Jean Niermans de lui construire un somptueux hôtel Negresco. La princesse Grace de Monaco et Salvador Dali y ont séjourné. Plus ancien encore est le Westminster Hotel, qui a ouvert ses portes en 1881 et qui est toujours entre les mains de la famille Schmitz-Grinda. Le Palais de la Méditerranée, qui date de 1929 et a été construit pour un millionnaire américain qui voulait avoir son propre casino. Maintenant, c'est un hôtel Hyatt Regency.

Buildings were once the mansions of the rich. Now Musée Massena is a villa created by danish architect Hans-Georg Tersling. A Romanian called Alexandru Negrescu commissioned architect Édouard-Jean Niermans to build him a lavish hotel Negresco. Princess Grace of Monaco and Salvador Dali have stayed here. Older still is the Westminster Hotel, which opened its doors in 1881 and is still in the hands of the Schmitz-Grinda family. The Palais de la Méditerranée, which dates from 1929 and was built for an American millionaire who wanted to have his own casino. Now, it’s a Hyatt Regency hotel.
