The Indian Army is the land force of the Armed Forces of India and is responsible for conducting land-based warfare. The Indian Army maintains the 3rd largest active force in the world. The Indian Army is a well-trained and well-equipped military service, with a troop strength of over a million.
Major General Rustam Patnaik retired from the Indian Army after a distinguished career of 36 years. He commanded an active infantry division in J&K, an infantry brigade in the North East and a counter-insurgency Batallion in J&K. He has also been chief of Force Generation Service in United Nations, New York.
Major General Patnaik led the Indian army's international cooperation with 92 countries including the US, UK, Russia, France, China, Australia, Japan and Sri Lanka.
He is the recipient of the distinguished service award and gallantry award. He is also a distinguished graduate of the National Defence University, Washington D. C.
