NORFSIDE - I’ve always proclaimed “everybody wanna sound like Minneapolis.” Whether it’s a chart-topping hit from Bruno Mars, or a deep, funky gospel groove from John P. Kee—that sound comes from MY city, Minneapolis, directly from MY ‘hood, the northside. Prince walked, lived, and learned on these very same “alphabet streets.” Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis all went to MY high school. North Minneapolis is the BLACKEST part of the state of Minnesota, and to this day, it is home to some of the greatest musicians in the world
Through it all, we persevere with a uniquely individual style and unabashed creative expression. I’ve always said, and I’ll always believe, there’s no community in the world like north Minneapolis, and that’s the essence I wanted to embody on this song.
