This is Part 3 of 8 in our Gospel series, and we are dealing with one of the most neglected words in modern preaching: how.
The Bible does not merely say Christ died. It says:
1 CORINTHIANS 15:3
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
The gospel is not complete unless the manner of His death is understood. Many will say, “Jesus died.” But Scripture specifies how He died for our sins.
Sin is not removed by sincerity.
Sin is not removed by sorrow.
Sin is not removed by reform.
Sin is dealt with by blood.
LEVITICUS 17:11
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
God did not say repentance makes atonement.
God did not say works make atonement.
God said the blood maketh an atonement for the soul.
HEBREWS 9:22
22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
No blood means no remission.
No remission means no salvation.
Christ died as the spotless Lamb.
1 PETER 1:18–19
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
He fulfilled every shadow of the Old Testament sacrificial system.
JOHN 1:29
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Redemption was obtained once.
HEBREWS 9:12
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Justification is by blood.
ROMANS 5:9
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
The issue is not whether Christ died.
The issue is whether your faith rests in how that Christ died for our sins.
Salvation is not found in the event of death alone. Salvation is found in the shed blood of the spotless Lamb of God, offered once for all, satisfying the righteousness of God completely.
If you have never trusted the blood of Jesus Christ as full payment for your sins, this is the moment to rest in what He finished.
Part 3 of 8.
The blood still saves.
Subscribe for the full series as we define the gospel exactly as Scripture defines it.
