The over-used word “iconic” might properly be applied to this enormously popular recording. Patti’s signature hit straddled the 1950-51 change-of-year, though the majority of her weeks at #1 (13-juke box, 9-sales) fell within calendar year 1951. This revival of Pee Wee King’s 1948 country hit was the earliest of six Page singles to reach the weekly top-10 listings that year. All are included in this collection, as are three other popular “Tennessee Waltz” recordings by Les Paul & Mary Ford, Jo Stafford and Guy Lombardo.

Geek trivia: This post is of the original hit single mix, which features two-voice harmony throughout.
From the later 1950s well into the digital years, the only version that was issued on LP and CD was an alternate mix using a four-part harmony overdub through the first 25 seconds, then reverting to two-part (go figure!).
