Every story has building blocks that make it come alive—characters, setting, plot, problem & solution, and theme! In this lesson, we’ll explore these key literary elements while reading an winter short story, "Caleb's Long Winter Walk".
What your students will learn in this video:
👻How to identify characters, setting, plot, problem, solution, and theme
👻Why these elements are important for understanding any story
👻How to apply literary elements to any story
💡 Why It Matters:
Understanding story elements helps students follow the structure of a story, recognize important events, and make sense of character actions and changes. It also helps them uncover the message or lesson (theme) an author wants to share. With these skills, readers are better prepared to analyze complex texts, connect themes across different stories, and enjoy reading at a deeper level.
This resource includes engaging teaching, interactive “turn and talk” moments, and a chance for students to practice identifying literary elements on their own. Perfect for classrooms or at-home learning!
