The Lanterns trailer is finally here, and despite some online backlash, it looks like James Gunn’s DCU is delivering exactly what was promised. Instead of a massive intergalactic CGI spectacle, Lanterns appears to be a grounded, character-driven Green Lantern series inspired by True Detective and Watchmen—and that’s precisely what makes it so exciting.

Following Hal Jordan and John Stewart, the series frames the Green Lantern Corps as cosmic detectives investigating a mysterious crime on Earth that may connect to a much larger conspiracy. It’s a fascinating reinterpretation of the space cop premise, leaning into noir, mystery, and character drama rather than nonstop cosmic action.
