Each year, North Star Fund recognizes grassroots activists striving for equality, economic justice, and peace with the Frederick Douglass Award.
African Communities Together (ACT) fights for civil rights, opportunities, and better quality of life for over 200,000 African immigrants living in New York City. ACT was founded to boost the community organizing of the city’s multiple, diverse African communities, including many Muslim and undocumented people. ACT connects African New Yorkers to critical city services, civic engagement, leadership development, and a platform to organize their communities, empowering them to thrive.
