Zeeweed is a technology that has been introduced by GE to achieve this. Zeeweed works by using man made membranes to filter out suspended solids and other contaminates from our water and waste water streams.

By filtering out contaminates and bacteria, this makes sure that only pure water passes through the waste stream. Zeeweed works based on a vacuum, applying a gentle suction the clean water passes through the membrane that ensures no suspended materials or bacteria larger than size 0.1 micron will pass through the physical barriers.
