Three to four small planes crash every day in the United States. Around 20% of these accidents are fatal.
In the latest Discover RED video, University of Arkansas mechanical engineer Neelakshi Majumdar talks about how she makes general aviation safer by examining the human causes of accidents. Her lab develops tools to help pilots recover when they lose control of a plane due to weather, mechanical issues or human errors.
"I'm passionate about my research and work, because I love aerospace. I want to use the knowledge that I've gained to contribute to safer aviation," Majumdar said.
