In this video, David Hurrion from BBC Gardeners' World Magazine explains the three main types of soil found in the UK - sandy, silt and clay - and how to do a soil textural analysis.
He then demonstrates how to knead the soil into balls and how to test them to determine which type of soil you have.
David explains that adding organic matter to sandy and silt soils will help to improve drainage, while clay soils need organic matter to break up the particles and improve drainage.
