Eating disorders don’t just impact the individual — they fracture families, drain hope, and create medical and legal emergencies. When treatment is delayed or resisted, families often feel powerless watching a loved one decline right in front of them.
In Florida, we use civil legal tools like the Marchman Act and Guardianship when someone is spiraling in a health crisis and unable or unwilling to protect themselves. These laws exist for one reason:
To preserve life and restore families to safety, stability, and real treatment.
