Hi, this is Dr. Girish A C, Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon. I am heading the Curls and Curves Cosmetic Surgery Centre, Vijay Nagar, Bangalore. Tummy tuck. A tummy tuck is a procedure wherein we usually do this for the tummy, especially for post-pregnancy women, where they will have those post-pregnancy changes in the tummy area. So what are those? So usually they will have excess fat deposits in the tummy area, maybe in the front, on the sides, that is in the flanks also. So there are a lot of stretch marks, loose skin, and a bulge. So the bulge is also because of the excess fat, and there is a weakening of the abdominal wall or muscles. It is also called diastasis of recti. So we need to correct all these issues; then only can we achieve good results. This tummy tuck procedure is advised for those women who have completed their family, maybe one or two children. If they are, I mean, comfortable, then they're okay. Once their family is complete, this procedure is advised because once the results are achieved, they are going to stay like that for a lifetime. The idea is to give them a pre-pregnancy status of the tummy area once the purpose of pregnancy is over. So here we follow different techniques in the tummy tuck. For excess fat, we do liposuction through multiple tiny holes. We remove the excess fat, leave behind the normal, and contour the abdomen and also the flanks. This is also called 360° lipo, along with the tummy tuck. Whatever excess skin is there, we are going to remove that. The incision will be as long as that loose skin and also through the same incision, very low down or in the hidden area. So we expose the inside of the abdominal wall, and we tighten the abdominal wall without making any incision directly over the abdomen. After that, we relocate the umbilicus and give it the proper shape. So finally, they will have the pre-pregnancy status tummy, and the scar is in the hidden area, lower area, or just above the pubic area. One can enjoy that good contour for a lifetime. Maybe the duration of the surgery is around 4 to 5 hours. It is a daycare surgery, morning admission, and evening discharge. Maybe 2 to 3 days of rest at home. After that, they can resume their routine activities, maybe work from home, or they can also go outside. They can carry out their normal work after 4 to 5 days. Of course, major physical activities are allowed after maybe 3 to 4 months once they are completely, I mean, recovered or normal. But walking and other minor activities can be allowed even after one week.
