Blame it on a mysterious fire.

The market was the brain child of the first Military Governor of the old Benue-Plateau State, Joseph Gomwalk, and commissioned by then Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari during the time of military governor Samuel Atikum in 1985.

This great structure which once stood as a symbol of pride and achievement to the people of Plateau State, is today an eyesore, yet a relevant unifying force in the center of the metropolis. The area around the market is disorganized and filthy. Every available space is occupied by clothes, foot wears, food items, cosmetic products and other commodities as seen in my video.

There is everything for everyone to buy on the streets and surroundings, of what used to be known as the biggest and best organized indoor market in West Africa.

The noise around the Jos Main market (also known as Jos terminus market) is typical of a market of that size, but the car horns, the holdup caused by heavy trucks loading and unloading goods, the rough unfriendly path into the new make-shift market, the jamboree of commercial motorcycles at the junction, and the crazy rush of passers-by, makes it an awful load of stress to contend with.
