2011 Jeep Patriot Code P0777 Deep Dive Part 2, Tools, and Draining Fluid

Описание: In part 1 of this series I cover the tools needed to remove the CVT, and let as much fluid drain out as possible. You can check out the earlier videos in this playlist to see document the issue as it happens. It initially came in with a broken CVT belt, on teardown, the CVT looked brand new inside, with no abnormal clutch wear. The Variator pulleys had no scarring or indications of slipping though the valvebody was damaged as it was hit by the belt when it broke. The vehicle had only 72,000 miles and is literally driven by a little old lady, and the vehicle appears to have been immaculately maintained. I believe the belt breaking at such a low mileage was due to her living in a mountainous area as she never towed with it, or otherwise overloaded the vehicle. Seals, clutches, steels, torque converter, pump and valvebody were replaced as part of the overhaul, and the proper Mopar brand CVTF+4 fluid was used. It started out that the vehicle would go around 500 miles, then set the P0777 code and go into limp mode. It has gradually gotten worse to the point that now after about 15-20 minutes of driving, or when the fluid gets up to temp, you feel the belt slipping on takeoff and the code immediately sets. This was confirmed with the scan tool and physical gauge testing on the ports indicating pri. & sec. pulley pressures at around 15-20 psi. at idle when the issue is occuring, though the pressures will rise if the engine is revved up. At first startup when the fluid is cold, pressures are around 200-300 psi. and the vehicle drives perfectly. As the fluid temp comes up you can watch the pressures fall until they get to the point where you can feel the belt slip on takeoff and the car goes into limp mode and the code sets. Due to time constraints, I was unable to film the initial overhaul, but foillow along as I go deep down the rabbit hole to find the root cause of this frustrating issue!
