Someone who has gone above and beyond as a hero to the animals is Officer Melissa Prettyman, who has come to the rescue more than once when a pet was in danger. She's rescued animals out of a burning home, before the family was even aware of the fire. Another rescue involved the team effort of Officer Prettyman and her partner -- saving a stray dog from drowning off the Mission Beach Jetty. Officer Prettyman says, "We deal with a lot of different situations every day. It can be anywhere from just educating a pet owner or going out and saving a dog in the water or whatever it may be -- but it's definitely a team effort. I feel if I can at least help one person or one animal in any way possible...then I know I've done my job."
