【Program Notes】

This work was composed during the turmoil of the Second World War in Moscow, then part of the Soviet Union.
Aram Khachaturian, a composer of Armenian heritage, was known for fusing the rhythmic vitality of folk music with the power of the Western symphonic tradition.
“Sabre Dance” comes from the ballet Gayane and accompanies a scene in which soldiers perform a fierce dance while brandishing swords.
Its relentless drive and sharply defined melodies embody raw energy and physical intensity.
More than mere spectacle, the music captures the will to survive and the force of life itself in an era marked by conflict and uncertainty.
Even in times of war and hardship, Khachaturian believed that music could inspire courage and sustain hope.
This spirit is what has carried the piece far beyond its original context, making it one of the most recognizable works of the 20th century.
In this performance, “Sabre Dance” is reimagined in a hard rock version inspired by the powerful and aggressive sound of classic British hard rock.
The original’s wartime intensity—born nearly eighty years ago—is infused with rock-driven energy and contemporary technology,
creating a bold expression that belongs unmistakably to the present moment.
This arrangement does not diminish the force of the original; rather, it amplifies it—
a modern translation of music that has always stood for resilience, momentum, and unyielding human spirit.

【Become a Bridge Concert Live】

Become a Bridge Concert Live is a unique collaboration between a one-of-a-kind orchestra, a live band, and an electronic percussionist, exploring new possibilities at the intersection of classical music and contemporary technology.
Through reinterpretations of great classical masterpieces, this project applies modern electronic techniques to actively merge traditional acoustic instruments with contemporary electronic instruments.
By doing so, we aim to create a deeper sense of harmony between performers and audiences, and to present a new musical experience born in the present time.
This concert was created and presented at Artware Hub KAKEHASHI MEMORIAL.

1. Bridging traditional acoustic instruments and contemporary electronic instruments through active integration.
2. Reflecting on the historical context in which composers lived, while seeking expressions unique to our present time.
