The Beggar's Trio is an amalgam of three plays: John Gay/Johann Christoph Pepusch's The Beggar's Opera (1728) and two of its adaptations, Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera (1928) and John Latouche/Duke Ellington's Beggar's Holiday (1946). Experience this classic tale of love, justice and class mobility through our beautifully reimagined blend of opera, classical, jazz and theatre, all in one.
Co-produced by Dr. Marcus DeLoach (associate professor of voice and opera) and Dr. Steve Newman (associate professor of English and Beggar's Opera scholar); stage directed by Kyle Metzger (adjunct professor of theater); funded by the Office of the Vice President of Research's Humanities and Arts Grant, the Boyer Opera Development Fund, the provost, and the vice provost for faculty.
