Again we are back at it with FireFighter X by Lorby - SI. Today we are using the OV-10 Bronco by Aerosoft and doing Air Attack over a fire at Mesa Grande Reservation. We are working out of the Ramona Cal Fire air attack base at Ramona Airport and directing Cal Fire Tanker 70 and Tanker 71for the initial attack.
Realistically I wouldn't be guiding these aircraft in as a lead plane. I think the practice is to talk them on to the area you want retardant dropped. While I haven't looked thoroughly, I've only found Cal Fire OV-10s acting as lead planes for large air tankers or very large air tankers - size-wise think DC-10 or 747 Super Tanker. But, due to limitations with FSX and the AI, it is impossible to simulate the talk on interaction between Air Attack and the initial attack tankers and have them hit a spot you are looking at.
This is really my first time leading in other planes so you'll see initially I come in a little too slow and almost get rear ended by Tanker 70 desperately trying to slow down to drop behind me.
Also in this video you'll see how FireFighter X interacts with Google Earth to show you where fires are among other things (it will also show AI aircraft locations and I believe retardant refill stations).
I have to say I'm becoming quite tempted at getting P3D to just enjoy this on a much smoother platform. FSX will no longer enter full screen for me without locking up. I've tried everything I've come across online but ultimately I resorted on using a borderless software to get it to display without the window border. The downside to this is when I am not in true full screen, I take a significant frame rate hit. It is probably noticeable in this video if you compare it with my last video. I imagine P3D doesn't have that full screen crashing issue.
As always, I hope you enjoy!
