The Indian Constitution has provided 15% reservation to Scheduled Castes or Dalits in educational institutions and government jobs. The developmental pattern has shown that some castes among SC category have made higher representation and progress in comparison with other castes of the SC. It is notable that some states want to create quota within quota to prioritise some castes of SC over other dominant castes of the SC to ensure that the benefits are adequately distributed. This issue has been part of discussions over the years even in the courtrooms of Supreme Court. Recently a seven-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud reserved judgment in the sub-classification among Scheduled Castes (SCs) case.
On the one hand, some people consider it as an attempt to ensure social justice on the other hand, many consider it as an well-articulated conspiracy to divide the emerging unity of the Scheduled Castes.
