Prabhupada Sri Sri Radha Raman Goswami ( Annada Chakraborty - Childhood name) was
born inthe year of 1915, in the village Singur of Baramchal, located in Sylhet
district of undivided India, andpresent Bangladesh. Soon after his birth he lost
his mother and father died when he was seven yearsold. His step mother used to look
after him. During Childhood days he was very very naughty,andfond ofNama Sankirtana
.He used to consider lord Krishna and Balarama as his Childhood friendsand named them
as Dhani Rama and Akuta Rama. As the time passed on he became more andmore devoted
towards worship of lord Krishna.Though he was admitted by a family relative Sri
BipinChakraborty in a local traditional school of that time under supervision of
Kula Guru Vedanta BhushanJi, he had no interest in material knowledge.
At the age of 11 years he left his house and got initiationin Vaishnavism from
Sri Ramani Mohan Goswami Ji. At the age of 14 years he was forcefully marriedto
a 6-7 years old girl, Radha Rani Devi but on the night of marriage itself he left
his house and gotengaged in deep meditation. He stayed alone in the hill of Ita
(Present Bangladesh ) for the period ofnext five years and discovered himself dissolved
in the world of transcendental knowledge and devotion.
After that period, he re-entered in the human society and started his mission to removedarkness
from the heart of each and every individual by cleansing effect of Hari Nama Sankirtana.
His family members tried to take him back home but failed. He took Sanyasa Deeksha,
in a placelocated in Panishail, Sylhet district under guidence of Sri Sri Govinda Charan
Goswami ji and GuruBharati Gosain Ji. After Sanyasa only, he became Radha Raman Goswami Ji
from AnnadaChakraborty .He was against caste, class classification of the society and always
stressed on puredevotion and Nama Sankirtana.People observed many miracles from his part but
he was beyond anydesire to get public identification. He tried to remove the everlasting fight
of Vaisnvism, Shakta andShaiva sects. As soon as Gurudev Govinda Charan Goswami Ji, left his
material body, his disciplesrequested him to become Mohanta of of Panishail Math. He stayed
there for few days as Mohanta butas he was fully free from any kind of desire left the place
and started roaming in the name of Sri Hari.
It was 1947, the eclipse of partition caused darkness in the new born nation.
East Bengal becameEast Pakistan. There was an environment of riot everywhere.
Finally, in 1950 , Radha RamanGoswami Ji, entered in Karimganj Dist. , Assam with his disciples.
In Maina Gram of Karimganj, hemet with Sri Satyendra Kumar Das , who was resident of Barai gram.
It was the time whenprabhupada ji was in search of a new Ashram in this newly partitioned nation,
beloved India for hisLord Krishna "Vinodray". Satyendra Das informed him about a left temple of Govinda Ji,
in Barai gram. The committee of Govinda Ji temple requested him to stay there as there was no body to look
afterGovinda Ji. In this way, Govinda Ji's temple became "Govinda Ji- Vinodray" temple or Ashram.
Beingwell connected by Railway and road way, that ashram became a center of devotion.
A center ofVaishnavism where mother Shakti is always given equal importance. A place where,
Durga puja ,Manasa Puja and many more were celebrated like Janmastami with same enthusiasm.
PrabhupadaJi, lived a life of pure devotion and left his material boy in the year 1971 in the
house of his disciple SriNalini Barman,Silchar, Assam. It was the auspicious day of Jagannatha
Ratha Yatra when he left hisbody. Prabhupada's disciples and devotes beyond caste-creed and
language bar payed their lasthomage in tearful eyes and divine love in heart .
Today Radha raman Goswami Ji , is remembered asthe respected religious Guru, and his disciples
have established many temples (Ashramas) in his memory across the region .
