The Olifants river starts at in the Bethal area in Mpumalanga, South Africa and then flows via some 30 legal mines and residential areas, through the Kruger National Park until it eventually joins the Limpopo River in Mozambique, before flowing into the Indian Ocean south of Xai-Xai. 10 Million people and many wild animals depend on its water. Water pollution is very bad from time to time due to Mines and Wastewater treatment works. The water is monitored continues ly to prevent disease outbreaks and that the drinking water quality is acceptable for humans and animals. Due to flooding, the river is not accessible in the rainy season but the High-level bridge is always there just upstream.
The view from Olifants camp is amazing overlooking the river.
