This is our account of the PR1 Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo hike in Madeira. We got up early for the sunrise and then headed across the trail taking some truly ‘epic’ (as I mention lots) views .
This stunning trek has to be seen to be believed with narrow and very high pathways, and some carved cliff edge trails.
We visited in July, and although it was warm by the end, not too bad for a start. I’d say a reasonable level of fitness is required and a head for heights! (I wouldn’t take small children, it can be a bit hairy in places)
