It Took 2 Tries to Paint the Skier in this Watercolour Painting Time-lapse

Описание: This watercolour painting titled "Lookout" was a commission of a skier looking towards Mt. Ogden in Yoho National Park. When I painted the skier I wasn't happy with the shape so I 'erased' it by flooding it with water and going over it a few times with a clean brush. I used my iPad to trace the photo so that I could get a better feeling for the drawing, and then I redid the skier and I'm much happier with it.

The colours I used were Da Vinci cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, vermilion, and burnt sienna. Ultramarine blue mixed with vermilion and burnt sienna makes a wonderful range of greys, browns, and even black. The paper is 300lb 7x11" Arches cold pressed watercolour paper.

In order to make it look like the top of the far mountain was disappearing into the atmosphere I wet the top of the mountain along with the sky so that the sky would bleed over the top of the mountain, making it indiscernible. Then when I painted the rocks I watered down my paint at the top so that the rocks would be very pale and look like they were covered by clouds and sun rays.

I basically paint the bottom of the dip wet on dry and then fade out the top with a clean brush as a gradient to clean water, using my towel to dab off the extra water so it doesn't flood into the bottom of the shadow.
