Common House Geckos
The term "house lizard" often refers to the common house gecko (Hemidactylus fremitus), a small reptile native to Southeast Asia. These geckos are frequently found in and around human dwellings, where they hunt insects attracted to lights.
Appearance: Common house geckos typically measure between 75 to 150 millimeters (approximately 3 to 6 inches) in length. They have an elongated body, a tapering tail, and four legs equipped with specialized toe pads that enable them to climb smooth surfaces (Animalia Bio)
Behavior: These geckos are primarily nocturnal, seeking shelter during the day and becoming active at night when they forage for food. Their diet mainly consists of insects, making them beneficial for controlling pests in homes (Animalia Bio).
Vocalization: Male house geckos are known for their distinctive three to five-note call, often described as "chuck, chuck, chuck." This vocalization is used in various contexts, such as emerging from daytime shelters and during interactions with other geckos (Animal Diversity).
Care as Pets: Some individuals choose to keep house geckos as pets. These reptiles require a habitat that maintains high humidity levels, between 70% to 90%, and a diet consisting of small insects like crickets and fruit flies. Regular misting of their enclosure helps maintain the necessary humidity
