A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 2 AM. These storms are capable of strong winds and hail 1" or larger at times. There will also be localized flooding from this line of storms through the next few hours.
These storms will gradually weaken as they move east, as the environment becomes less favorable for severe storms. We could still see, however, an isolated strong storm with smaller hail through 6 AM before it moves east and out of the area.
For the San Antonio metro and the I-35 corridor, the severe threat is lower but not zero.
Storms moving in from the west could still bring large hail, strong wind gusts, intense lightning, and heavy downpours, especially after midnight into the early morning hours.
Some storms may weaken as they approach the metro, but pockets of severe weather remain possible.
A "weakening trend" is expected as storms move east. For San Antonio, the primary window for weather activity is 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.. Officials noted that while the risk level drops as storms move toward the city, residents should remain alert.
Rest of the Week Forecast
The remainder of the week is expected to be clear:
Thursday: Cool and crisp morning; sunny with a high of 70.
Friday: Chilly morning in the 40s; sunny with highs in the upper 70s.
Saturday: Sunny with highs in the 80s.
Sunday: Sunny with highs near 90. A strong cold front is expected to move through by early Sunday evening, bringing a significant cooldown to start next week with lows in the 30s and 40s.
