প্রকৃতপক্ষে আমাদের দেশে আমরা অনেকেই জানি না যে “বিশেষ শিক্ষা” কি এবং কাদের এই শিক্ষা দেয়া হয়।বিশেষ শিক্ষা বলতে বোঝায় ,বিশেষ চাহিদা সম্পন্ন শিশুদের শিক্ষা ব্যাবস্থার সাথে যুক্ত করে তাদের বিশেষ শিক্ষা প্রদানের ব্যাবস্থা করা ।এই শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থায় শিক্ষার্থীর চাহিদাকে আলাদা ভাবে মর্যাদা দেওয়া হয়। শিক্ষার্থীর জন্য আলাদা আলাদা শিক্ষক বিশেষ নজরদারির মাধ্যমে শিক্ষা প্রদান করেন। শিক্ষার্থীর শিক্ষা দানে বেশ কিছু উপাদান ব্যাবহার করা হয়,যা শিক্ষার্থীকে খুব সহজে শিখতে সহায়তা করে। শিক্ষকগন শিক্ষার্থীর পরিবারের সঙ্গে আলোচনার মাধ্যমে এবং শিক্ষার্থীর বুদ্ধির স্তর বুঝে ক্রমশই শিক্ষা দেন। এই সকল শিশুদের জন্য প্রয়জনীয় কাঠামো যুক্ত শ্রেণীকক্ষে শিক্ষা দানের ব্যাবস্থা থাকে। শিক্ষার্থীদের শিক্ষার জন্য বিশেষ ধরনের পদ্ধতি ব্যবহৃত হয়।যথা-ব্রেইল পদ্ধতি বিশেষ শিক্ষায় শিক্ষার্থীর শেখার প্রবণতার উপর বিশেষ জোর দেওয়া হয়।
