After years of nominations and near misses, K-pop finally has its Grammy moment.
On Sunday local time, 'Golden,' one of the song's from the Netflix megahit "Kpop Demon Hunters" won Best Song for Visual Media at the Grammy Awards' pre-telecast ceremony in Los Angeles.
Songwriters EJAE, Teddy, 24, and IDIO are taking home the honor.
Performed by the film's fictional girl trio HUNTR/X ---using the voices of EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami ---the song marks a historic moment for K-pop, winning a Grammy ahead of BTS, which has earned five Grammy nominations but has yet to secure a win.
The victory was widely reported by major global media outlets, including The New York Times, which described the win as ending "a drought for the powerhouse global genre."
Since its release last June, KPop Demon Hunters became Netflix's most-viewed movie of all time, amassing over 480-million views worldwide, while 'Golden' also topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks last year.
The film's awards run may not be over as 'Golden' is also nominated in categories, including Song of the Year, raising expectations that it could become the first K-pop song to win one of the Grammys top honors.
Also representing K-pop, BLACKPINK's Rosé also earned three nominations for "APT," her collaboration with Bruno Mars, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
In addition, KATSEYE, a girl band created through a collaboration between HYBE and Geffen Records, were nominated in the Best New Artist category.
The group performed at the ceremony but failed to secure the prize.
Attention now turns to the last of the so-called 'Big Four' awards with K-pop acts still in contention for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
