Calm has returned to Protea Glen in Soweto after a group of e-hailing service drivers blocked roads with their vehicles yesterday as one of their cars was set alight on Monday evening at the Protea Glen Mall. This follows a previous incident where some e-hailing service drivers were assaulted, and three vehicles were damaged and set alight last week at the Maponya Mall.
Later this morning, the City of Joburg and other stakeholders, including the Police, taxi associations and e-hailing drivers associations, will hold a meeting in an effort to find a solution that will also protect the lives of both passengers and drivers. To talk more about this matter and today's meeting, we are virtually joined by Councillor Kenny Kunene, City of Joburg's MMC for Transport.
