Today was my birthday, but it was also Horace's birthday, Christiana’s close male friend. I opened Horace's WeChat moments, and sure enough, there was a new post.

The photo showed two hands making a heart shape in front of a cake. One of the hands was Christiana’s—she was wearing the necklace I had given her.
I gave the post a like, put down my phone, and dumped all the dishes Christiana liked into the trash. Then I went to a restaurant to order food I enjoyed, celebrating my birthday alone.
