The Siruvapuri Balamurugan Temple has an ancient legacy. It is believed to be over 500 years old and carries a strong connection with Arunagirinathar, the famous Tamil saint and poet who composed the Thiruppugazh hymns in praise of Lord Murugan. According to legend, Arunagirinathar visited this temple and offered his devotional verses, which are still sung during temple rituals.

The temple is also associated with local folklore. It is said that children in the region once played and accidentally damaged a Shiva Lingam. To atone for this act, a temple was later constructed here for Lord Murugan, who is revered as Balamurugan, the youthful form of the divine warrior. Over the centuries, the temple grew in prominence with contributions from local kings, chieftains, and devotees.
