In November of 2021, I was very fortunate to collaborate with Hetrick Martin Institute & Yahoo Media to create an opening video for their fundraising event called the "Emery Awards" This video tells the story of the creation and meaning of The Kiki Scene through the founding mothers of this scene.
As someone who was birthed in this scene at the age of 19, now 30 and legendary, I feel it important also to highlight the youth that has literally kept the ballroom culture thriving in NYC since its conception.
Mainstream Ballroom's most revered talents came out of the Kiki Scene and deserved equally as much respect for its relevancy in culture. Being part of the project is extremely important to me and the work that I do. It has taken me so long to upload this on my channel from simply not valuing myself more than I should. I would like to note, that I didn't physically edit this video as I have done with my tributes, I simply assisted in the creative direction of this video.
However, This is a great transition into the direction Humansofballroom will be leading into.
