This fort has witnessed fierce battles between the Maratha Empire and the cunning, deceitful Siddi rulers of Janjira.
Bankot Fort played a crucial role in strengthening Maratha power along the Konkan coast by standing strong against the treacherous threats posed by the Siddi of Janjira.

However, due to internal conflicts within the Maratha administration, the fort eventually fell into the hands of the shrewd British, who took advantage of the situation.
Later, during the British era, Bankot also became the site of a tragic accident, the memory of which still lingers in the fort’s forgotten corners.
