Solo Hiking the Eastern Sierra in October

Описание: I backpacked alone in the Eastern Sierra, California starting October 22 2024. I hiked from Sabrina to Big Pine and much of my route was off trail high above the tree line. I took the very last weather window of the season. I only saw people at the trailhead, it was surreal to have the whole place completely to myself. This is an ambient silent hiking film with ethereal music and no talking.

🗺️ About the route:

I designed this 40 mile point-to-point route (that can also be done as a loop) that starts at Sabrina basin trailhead and ends at Big Pine Lakes trailhead. This is an exciting route because normally you would have to make two different trips to visit these areas, and I'm unaware of reports of other people having done this.

The route is mostly a hike, but it goes over Echo Col and Scimitar Pass which are mountaineering routes. Echo being the more difficult of the two with significant class 3 terrain involved on the north side. Huge loose boulders and scree slopes make Echo a bit dangerous and unnerving, I don't really recommend it, but it can be fun if you really know what you're doing. In my opinion, Haeckle Col is the most reliable way to cross the Sabrina Crest. So I’d recommend using that col instead if you want to do this route.

To make it a loop, you can hike an additional 25 miles over Table Mountain back to Sabrina. That was my original plan, but a forecasted winter storm prevented me from doing that section so I got a ride back to my car.
