Roxie Fricton is a textile artist from Dawsonville, Georgia, whose practice is rooted in the weaving traditions of Appalachia. She first encountered weaving while earning her B.S. in Sociology and Textiles at the University of North Georgia—an unexpected discovery that became a lifelong pursuit. Fricton reinterprets overshot and coverlet drafts as both archive and language, collecting and rearranging fragments of historic patterns—often partial and unsigned—to honor the anonymous labor of women while inserting her own contemporary voice into this lineage. Her process draws on archives such as the Atlanta History Center, the John C. Campbell Folk School, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, positioning weaving as both a historical record and a lived expression. Through cloth, she explores memory, identity, and the cultural weight of women’s creative labor. Fricton is pursuing her MFA in Textiles at Georgia State University. Her work has been exhibited at Haywood Community College, Echo Contemporary Art, Agnes Scott College, The Bakery Atlanta, and the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance, and is held in the Dalton Gallery permanent collection.
