Azazel is a mysterious figure appearing in Jewish texts, especially in the Book of Leviticus, where he was a symbol of the scapegoat sent into the desert on the Day of Atonement. In apocryphal tradition, especially in the Book of Enoch, he is presented as a rebellious angel who taught people forbidden knowledge and was punished for it. In later demonology, he was identified with one of the fallen angels or demons.
