I'm your host Andrés Hincapié and today we'll be listening to the song “Herencia Africana”, in which the singer Yuri Buenaventura seeks to highlight and pay homage to the African heritage in Colombia.

The first lyrics of the song say:

Somos herencia africana,
Orgullo tengo en mi raza

We are African heritage,
I'm proud of my race

We can see here that Yuri wastes no time and immediately establishes the topic of the song, a celebration of the African heritage of Colombia.

Musically, the song has a playful transition back and forth between salsa and rumba guaguancó, the latter an insistent call, pulling us back, closer to the African and Afro-Latin roots of Latin American culture.
