This week I'm taking a look at some link cables from super rod designed to speed up testing. It's sometimes looked upon as deskilling or even cutting corners. I use them all the time and although I was dubious at first, they do have a part to play when carrying out EICRs, fault finding and general testing.
IET Book – Guidance Note3 – Inspection and Testing Chapter 2.6.7: For Insulation Resistance testing BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 permits the test voltage applied to circuits following connection of equipment to be reduced to 250 V DC, provided that cables were tested at 500 V DC prior to connection. Following connection of equipment that might be damaged by, or influence, the test, a test at 250 V DC is to be applied between live conductors and the protective conductor connected to the earthing arrangement.
