1. General Info for anyone who receives benefits
Payments will also be automatic for those who receive Social Security, railroad retirement or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI and SSI) and veteran's benefits who don't normally file a tax return. However, to add the $500 per eligible child amount to these payments, the IRS needs the dependent information before the payments are issued. Otherwise, their payment at this time will be $1,200 and, by law, the additional $500 per eligible child amount would be paid in association with a return filing for tax year 2020. The IRS released in a statement on Monday that they want benefit recipients who have eligible dependents to use the non filers tool by Wednesday April 22. “If you weren’t able to get that in,” he said, “you may have to wait until the next tax season next year.” Even though that deadline passed, Stenson suggested trying it now anyway to see if you qualify. You should receive payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you usually receive your SSI benefits.

2. Timing are a Social Security, railroad retirement or veterans benefit recipients. SSI is scheduled for early May. Social security disability, retirement, and railroad retirement benefits should be relieving payments before the end of April. Many of you should of already received them if you filed a tax return and have direct deposit set up. If you are a VA benefit recipient you are scheduled to get your check by the second week as well.
