We hiked to Vettisfossen waterfall which is located in the Jotunheimen National Park in the Utladalen valley nearby Ovre Ardal in Norway. It is an awe-inspiring free-falling waterfall that stands as one of the highest in Northern Europe, even in the world. It has a staggering height of 902 feet (275 meters).

The Norwegian word "foss" means waterfall. Vetti is the nearby farm that you pass before starting on the steep ascent to the top view. Hence the name Vettisfossen. The waterfall can also be observed from the floor of the valley. It can be considered a hidden gem as it is much less crowded (you might be there alone depending on when you go) than other similar tourist or nature attractions among others because it requires a bit of effort to get there in addition to not being as famous as e.g. Trolltunga.

The waterfall can be observed from the valley floor as well as from the top. The hike to the top view takes about 4 hours return and starts by following a gravel road through the deep valley between Hjelle and Vetti.

There are several waterfalls on the way and the landscape is awesome. From Vetti you will continue on a trail that is steep and rocky and a bit challenging however it is definitely worth the effort when you reach the top and can admire the majestic view of the waterfall plunging into the depths.
