Join me on a one-hour virtual walking tour of Jinligou (金李沟), a hidden gem in Huangpi District, Wuhan, China — and the only Tujia cultural park in all of Wuhan. This is more than a tourist attraction. It's a living window into a people who've called these mountains home for over a thousand years.
The Tujia people — who call themselves "Bizika," meaning native dwellers — descend from the ancient Ba Kingdom, warriors who fought with tiger skins and bronze swords. Their White Tiger god still watches over this valley today.
We walk from a tranquil lakeside boat tour through a stunning historic village reconstruction — life as it was 300 years ago during the Qing Dynasty. We cross a terrifying glass sky bridge over a deep canyon, follow a babbling creek into the forest, and eventually wander off the tourist path entirely into a real, working Tujia farming village. No ticket booth. No souvenir shops. Just daily life in the mountains of Hubei.
This trip also happens to be the very first place Youlan and I explored together — long before we were married. Every step was a memory in the making.
