In this lesson, we will learn how to add or subtract square root and higher-level roots such as cube roots and fourth roots. The idea here is we must have like radicals in order to simplify. Like radicals are two or more radicals with the same index and the same radicand. In some cases, it may appear as though two radicals are not like radicals but after simplifying we will find that we do have like radicals. Therefore, we should always simplify before performing any addition or subtraction with square roots.
