Let us visualize a circular track capable of supporting the simultaneous motion of two vehicles. Both vehicles move along opposite surfaces of the track, in the same direction, without mutual interference, one at one tenth and the other at two tenths of the speed of light. Let us suppose that, as both vehicles pass synchronously through a point X, they emit a light signal, and that the instant is recorded with reference to atomic clocks carried by each of them.
As is well known, the experiment reveals the proper time dilation of each vehicle. But what can be said of space?
Given that both remain in motion along the same invariant physical circuit, does this not imply that the spatial structure itself remains intact?
Indeed, this simple thought experiment suggests space as being fundamental, whereas the space-time metric would be relational and emergent.
